13 Year-Old Preps For Miss Barbados Title -
For many years
we have wondered why the Chinese excell in gymnastics, why the
Jamaicans are phenomenal sprinters and why the stunning Venezuelans
dominate pageants. The answer is simple, years of hard work and
dedication from well in their youth, enables them to deliver like
veterans from a very early age. HELLO Magazine now introduces you to
Kerrie Bruce, who, at 13 years of age, already has her sights set on
both the Miss World and Miss Universe titles.
"At first I was
interested because my brother asked me about it, but now I really want
to go for it!" This was the stunning 13 year-old Alexandra student's
response when asked about what led her to dreams this colossal.
For those wondering who her brother is, he is none other than Ronnie
Morris, the first ever Mr. Barbados-World, who went on the create
history as the higest-placed Barbadian of any gender in a major
international pageant, as he took the 4th runner-up spot in the 2003
Mr. World finals in London, against some 50 contestants.
Kerrie apparently has all of the areas of pageantry covered. She is an
award winning dancer both in ballet, which she studied at The Dance
Place, and also as a hip-hop / modern dance enthusiast at the Alexandra
School, as a member of the group Expensive.
At 13 years old she
is unusually tall, standing at a mighty six feet and still growing, and
at the suggestion of her proud mother, she started growing locks,
inspired by local fashion icon Betty West's flowing dreads.
While having a brother who swept all three local pageants in which he competed may have its benefits, it also
has its down-sides as Kerrie explains.
"I can do the Alexandra School Pageant but not the Interschool Pageant
because my brother produces it, and he told me it would not be fair,"
she said with a sigh.
At 13 years-old her schedule is at first
sight hectic, but a deeper look reveals a complete life experience
which can only be beneficial. For her general fitness and talent, she
attends dance practice two days per week. She is also constantly
studying her school work to ensure she has the brains to match the
looks and she is an avid church-goer.
HELLO is pleased to have
given you the first glance at this young lady, but she will not begin
her pageant experience until the year 2013 when she will be eighteen
years of age. She will have braces for her birthday at age 14, which
will be removed within two years, and she will make her debut in the
Miss Barbados-World pageant as soon as she completes her CXC
examinations, and then the Miss Barbados-Universe pageant.
"If God spares my life and continues to bless me, I look forward to
someday representing Barbados at the Miss World and later the Miss
Universe pageants, and I intend to bring both titles home" she said,
with all of the poise and elegance of not only a future beauty queen,
but a positive young Barbadian lady.
