![]() “Moving beyond awareness: exploring new possibilities for Autism” Spectrum Possibilities is a registered charity founded by Mr. Larry Smith and Mrs. Deborah Thompson- Smith in March 2010. The main goal of this organization is ‘to inspire a vision of what is possible for each person with a suspected or diagnosed Autism Spectrum Disorder and to facilitate action towards that vision’. This ‘Beauty with a Purpose’ project has joined forces with this organization to heighten the awareness of Autism among children in Barbados by utilizing the platform of Miss Barbados World 2010 to accelerate, enhance, and share the message of HOPE for recovery. Autism is a disorder which is a devastating neurological and biological disorder that typically affects children between the ages 18 months to 5 years of age. Autism affect 1 in every 91 children and it is estimated that there are over 1million people in the United States alone with this disorder. This project forms a component of the outreach programme which aims to transform the thinking of the Barbadian society as well as the parents living with children with Autism through education and a message of HOPE.
