MBW: Describe yourself in THREE sentences.
CHACONIA I am a warm friendly sociable individual and full of spunk. I have a very unforgettable smile and cannot end a wholesome conversation without a good laugh. I am also very reliable and responsible.

MBW: What don't most people know about you?
CHACONIA I may come across to others as very confident and intimidating, but I am a very shy and self-conscious person.

MBW: Tell us about your Beauty With a Purpose project.
CHACONIA The aim of my project, Beauty with a Purpose is to heighten the awareness of Children who suffer with Autism and to join forces with the newly formed Association, Spectrum Possibilities'. This will promote their educational programme which is dedicated to sharing HOPE for recovery from this developmental disorder.

MBW: What has been your most memorable sunny day?
CHACONIA My most memorable sunny day was the announcement of Barack Obama becoming the first Black President of the United State of America. My mother and I followed the election coverage until the big announcement. I was overwhelmed with emotions and tears of joy rolled down my cheeks.

MBW: If you were invited to participate in the 2010 Italian Fashion Week which international designer would you like to dress you?
CHACONIA I love DSquared2 or Custo Barcelona but I admire the designs from Jared Gold. I saw his designs on the Americas Next Top Model Cycle 6, Episode 4, where the models' challenge was to wear his pieces with eccentric accessories that surprised everyone, bedazzled Madagascar cockroaches. I like that his pieces are very innovative and the pieces connected to my sense of style, sophisticated but it has its own swag to it.

MBW: Tell us about your favorite liming spot.
CHACONIA I don't exactly have a specific liming spot. I enjoy long drives with my closest friends, listening to music and enjoying the beautiful scenery. These moments calm my soul while I day dream in my own world.

MBW: What has been your most embarrassing moment? Describe it.
CHACONIA Lol I cannot believe I am being asked this question. I can recall going to a family picnic where I was at Bath Beach. At that time the beach was experiencing bad current. A tide came from nowhere, and pushed me over when I was trying to avoid it. I tripped over a tree root and fell on my side like a slow motion movie. Everyone laughed and was shocked that only my right side of my dress was wet after the huge tide passed.

MBW: What facial products do you use?
CHACONIA I use Simple Cleansing Lotion and Vitamin E oil.

MBW: Do you diet, work out or just wing it?
CHACONIA I prefer not to use the term diet, but I monitor how I eat in a healthy, natural way along with plenty of exercise.

MBW: What is your X factor?
CHACONIA My X factor is challenging myself in an area that I never thought I would be in a position to experience for example this competition.

MBW: What is your personal style?
CHACONIA It varies, I can portray a sophisticated, posh and confident look like Victoria Beckham, or have a bit of a bad girl swag like Rihanna.

MBW: What is your weakness if any?
CHACONIA I think I am too trusting.

MBW: Where will the Miss Barbados World judges score you highest: interview, talent, swimsuit or gown presentation
CHACONIA I hope to perform well in all areas, but I think I will score the highest in my interview and my gown presentation.

MBW: Why should you be crowned Miss Barbados World 2010?
CHACONIA Due my various backgrounds: being a past member of the Barbados Cadet Corp, a volunteer with the RSPCA from the early age of twelve, a member of an amazing modeling agency, and currently a member of the Constituency Council where I hope to represent the opinions of the youth of my country, I know I am eligible to be the ideal contestant to wear this crown. My strong character and abilities to accept people, for who they are, despite their race, their cultures or religion, would qualify me to be an Ambassador, not only for my country but to represent others throughout the world.

MBW: What message you would like to send to the other Miss Barbados World contestants?
CHACONIA What can I say.it is a competition; however, I keenly anticipate building new relationships and experiencing this once in a lifetime opportunity with you as a life changing process for we are the young women of this generation who will make a difference in the eyes of our country. We are all role models.

DANIELLE I am a 20 year old girl who loves reading, singing and modeling. I am a very fun loving as well as outgoing. I am goal oriented and what ever I put my hands to do I must complete to the best of my abilities.

MBW: What don't most people know about you?
DANIELLE Modelling was not something I always wanted to do until I got older. People at church use to call me Model as a nickname but I never thought anything about it. As I got older it is an enormous passion of mine.

MBW: Tell us about your Beauty With a Purpose project.
DANIELLE Its called the "Reach up, Reach out Campaign. This campaign is about youth who are abused and living with HIV/AIDS. We want to tell them that there is hope and that we as a community can come together as one to help in the needs and lives of these young ones.

MBW: What has been your most memorable sunny day?
DANIELLE My most memorable sunny day was coming back to Barbados after being away for two long years.

MBW: If you were invited to participate in the 2010 Italian Fashion Week which international designer would you like to dress you?
DANIELLE The dress I would like to wear if invited to the 2010 Italian Fashion Week would be from designer Emporio Armani.

MBW: Tell us about your favorite liming spot.
DANIELLE My favourite liming spot is being at home. Home is where I get my biggest laughs from being around my family.

MBW: What has been your most embarrassing moment? Describe it.
DANIELLE My most embarrassing moment was that I was at a function held at night and at this function there was a part where there was one step that a lot of people kept tripping over and I laughed until when I was leaving I was among those of the ones that had tripped and I remember looking at my boyfriend to she if he would run to grab me but when I looked back at him, his hands where in the air as if to say wait I ain't know what just happened but that thought me not to laugh at people, because what goes around comes around. Lol.

MBW: What facial products do you use?
DANIELLE I use St. Ives facial products.

DANIELLE To be honest I just wing it for now.

MBW: Tell us about your Beauty With a Purpose project.
TASHANNA Beauty with A Purpose suggests that all contestants focus on a charity with the intention of bringing a greater awareness to that particular cause. It is for this reason that I have partnered with a non-profit agency to assist with the rehabilitation and reinsertion of the homeless back into the functioning society. I am very passionate about this issue here in Barbados, across the Caribbean and World Wide. The Barbados Homeless & Vagrant Society Charity has a great plan and is working feverishly to bring it to fruition. I will be assisting them in generating funds to continue the fight for cause. My Campaign is therefore called "Help The Homeless" it is a heartfelt plea for those who are capable of giving funds. goods or services to help us get these people off the streets because with the right help they can be of a positive benefit to society.

MBW: What has been your most memorable sunny day?
TASHANNA My most memorable sunny day is being young waiting for dad to take my little brother and myself to watch the planes come in seeing them flying over head while hearing there roaring sounds seeing the smoke from the tires as they touch down and anxiously awaiting the other planes but couldn't wait for it to end to see the beautiful lights on the runway, It was really amazing.

MBW: If you were invited to participate in the 2010 Italian Fashion Week which international designer would you like to dress you?
TASHANNA If I were invited to participate in the 2010 Italian Fashion Week I would love to wear a collection from a top Italian fashion house. Dolce & Gabbana offers style and a new form of elegance presenting itself as a modern classic. I like the fact Dolce and Gabbana has evolved over the years without forgetting its roots.

MBW: Tell us about your favorite liming spot.
TASHANNA Polo at Apes Hill, Lion & Castle, I love the Fishpot for food, I enjoy The Mews on 2nd Street and i love Oistins for the fish and chips on the weekends.

MBW: What has been your most embarrassing moment? Describe it.
TASHANNA My most embarrassing moment during the reading of my valedictorian speech, where the emotion took over me and I chocked on my words, having everyone there counting on me was overwhelming. It took me a couple minutes to gather my thought's and my teacher Mr. Marshall stood there and held my hand through the balance of the speech.

MBW: What facial products do you use?
TASHANNA Mac and I do drink alot of water because that plays a major part as well in having a healthy skin.

MBW: Do you diet, work out or just wing it?
TASHANNA I spend most of my life around my dad who's big on fitness, so was my grandfather and following in their footsteps is my brother. I have theirs assistance keeping fit and healthy.

TASHANNA My friends, family and people I come into contact with tell me I am beautiful inside and out I care about others and I want to use what god has given me to encourage and inspire the youth of Barbados. Its not all about academics we have all been given a talent and we need to find what that talent is, I'm fortunate to be able to use mine to help others which is so rewarding.

TASHANNA I love trendy with a little bit of a Diva flair the forefront of sensuality and elegance ready to wear something different that you hardly see other people in.

TASHANNA As I previously mentioned about my embarrassing moment public speaking was something I struggled with however I realized now, all I need to do is be myself. I've since mastered that.

TASHANNA Swimwear and Gown presentation I love both areas and feel most comfortable in Swimwear I can show my more confident, outgoing and fun loving side while the Gown allows me to be sensual and elegant.

MBW: Why should you be crowned Miss Barbados World 2010?
TASHANNA Should I become Miss Barbados World 2010, I will use my position to help raise awareness about our current for Vagrant and homeless situation, We currently have 365 vagrants which is one person to a day a year. It's a serious situation at home, within the Caribbean and other countries as well.

I will represent Barbados with Style, Class and Dignity, making us known in every corner of the globe, ensuring that we are widely known as an Island not only with sand, sea & sun but with intelligent, talented and caring people.

Barbados is an island paradise and we all should be proud of this island in the sun!!

MBW: Tell us about your Beauty With a Purpose project.
NIKEDA My Beauty with a Purpose Project is under the umbrella of Hope Campaign (3H- Hope, Heart, Healing), the project is basically on HIV/AIDS and single mothers. The Hope Campaign is a family geared campaign that will raise the importance of single mothers living with HIV/AIDS. I chose Hope, Heart and healing because Hope represents the future, the Heart symbolises how strong I feel about what my campaign is doing and the family is the heart of the community. I also recognise mothers and children are the most vulnerable group in the society in terms of HIV/AIDS. And the hope campaign is focusing on healing families one at a time to make Barbados a better place. We have different strategic plans to reach our island, going to one unrecognised primary school in each parish island wide to do mini seminars on HIV/AIDS, planning to have the Parish Ambassadors involved as well, there will be a symbol to identify my campaign which will be a red an d white layered ribbon with the words (Hope, Heart Healing) printed on them. A motorcade to raise the awareness the public not only about me being in Miss Barbados World 2010 but with my pamphlets the public will have material to read more like a mini-bio of myself, the campaign and the show.

MBW: What has been your most memorable sunny day?
NIKEDA My most memorable sunny day would have to be one where I was more tired than usual, and did not want to stay at home, got on a route 11 and went to Accra Beach paid $30.00 for a beach chair and fell asleep on the beach with my iPod and bag under me, to wake up with a strange man over me saying sleeping beauty, how could you all asleep out here?.. I smiled got up and went home thinking this was strange too strange.

MBW: If you were invited to participate in the 2010 Italian Fashion Week which international designer would you like to dress you?
NIKEDA Gianfranco Ferre- because of the way his creations seem to change the way people dress worldwide. His dedication to his to fashion is more than love and it shows.

MBW: Tell us about your favorite liming spot.
NIKEDA Under the first three trees to the right at Accra beach, since I am a very reserved kind of person at times, I really enjoy the serenity and quietness of the beach. I go there and do some introspection.

MBW: What has been your most embarrassing moment? Describe it.
NIKEDA My hair done in Kinky Twist, walking down Broad street only for a tourist to kindly run behind me Miss, Miss!!, your braids fell out. I looked down four of my braids were trailing me; I was so embarrassed I smiled, said "thanks!" and disappeared into Cave Shepherd.

Aspiration: There are so many things I want to do that it seems almost impossible to list, I want to specialize in either Psychiatry or Plastic Surgery, further pursue my passion for research and hopefully me fortunate enough to end up in politics where I know that I can be of great service to my country.
Philosophy: Life, like yoga teaches you flexibility; bend but don't break. The only thing in life you should chase without abandon is happiness- remember that if who you are is what you have, and what you have is lost, then who are you? Allow the path your life follows to vary, but maintain the positivity in your presence at all times, the greatest contribution you can make to the world often is one you haven't considered; and the best things in life happen when we just let life happen.

INTERVIEW WITH MAIA BLACKMAN

MBW: Describe yourself in THREE sentences.
MAIA: I am a passionate, and compassionate person; anything I commit to doing I put everything into it, because I have to be satisfied with the eventual outcome, and so long as I have given a project my all I can be happy with its results. I'm multi faceted, enjoying a great polo match up as much as a soca party, or an early morning hike; take pleasure in challenging myself mentally, or physically but also appreciate doing nothing' time. I'm a really friendly person so the best way to get to know me, is just to get to know me.

MBW: What don't most people know about you?
MAIA: Very few people know about my passion for writing, I've been writing poetry from the time I was about eight years old; I believe it has helped to develop my Voice as a person making me appreciate the impact of my words at all times.There are two things in life that do harm and never can be taken back, the said word and the shot arrow, the latter leaving damage that usually heals.

MBW: Which THREE songs must be in your I-Pod?
MAIA: TMy i-pod is always with me so firstly I need my morning anthem, that's the song that gets me ready for the day- Michael Jackson's Man in the Mirror, my song that perks me up when I need a little energy, usually on the way to the gym is Rupee's In a Frenzy and even though this really isn't a song, hearing it always makes me happy- Maya Angelou's Still I Rise the words just resonate so deeply, and her voice is so calming.

MBW: Tell us about your Beauty With a Purpose project.
MAIA: Until recently, when a controversial story thrust the Elroy Phillips Hospice into the Spotlight, very few Barbadians would have been aware of its presence, and while preventing the spread of HIV/AIDS is most important, providing not just adequate but exceptional care for those already afflicted must be at the forefront also. We as a nation, where the war on this deadly pandemic is being fought, and won; must care for our disadvantaged brothers as we would ourselves. And as such I am trying to raise awareness of the Hospice in the general public, as well as undergoing several fundraising ventures in order to assist in supplying the needs of the hospice residents. We cannot, and I will not forget the faces of those people already suffering on a daily basis from the devastating effects of the disease. Standing idly by and watching them die in discomfort is not an option.

MBW: What has been your most memorable sunny day?
MAIA: Tourist Day I did with my best friend from Canada, we went to the Wild Life Reserve, Animal Flower Forest, Harrison Cave, Orchid World. Everywhere we could think of that tourists would go, and we drove the entire coast counting rum shops, bus stops, churches and roundabouts and taking over a thousand pictures. It amazed me as to how beautiful my country really is, and how much we miss it because we live in the beauty all the time. How friendly people were, and how helpful everyone was when we got lost, and we got lost a lot showed me exactly why so many flock to this country- yes the beaches are incredible, but it's the people that make it paradise. We sampled pie' from everywhere we passed until we couldn't eat any more. And when, at the end of the day we finally collapsed from sheer exhaustion, we couldn't be exhausted for long- the music in second street came on, and after a sushi dinner the incredible excitement that is packed into 166 sq mi was undeniable. Made me feel blessed to be not just Barbadian, but Bajan.

MBW: If you were invited to participate in the 2010 Italian Fashion Week which international designer would you like to dress you?
MAIA: Without a doubt it would be Giorgio Armani. I have been impressed with the functionally artistic voice which comes through in every one of the pieces, regardless of the season or the year. He uses subtle details to make bold statements, allowing his designs to always be timeless and elegant, but also fun to see and fun to wear.

MBW: Tell us about your favorite liming spot.
MAIA: I'm a gymoholic, and most of closest friends are too, so I would say our best time spent together just liming would be at the front of the gym, usually after a brutal workout. We sit in the back of my truck trying to regain feeling in our legs and just talk about everything, and laugh non stop, might decide to go for a drink or something to eat but it always starts off at the gym.

MBW: What has been your most embarrassing moment? Describe it.
MAIA: Remember it perfectly, sitting in Sheretan with a huge roti- pumpkin, chana, potato, pepper sauce dripping down my hands as I try to stop it from getting all over a pristine white shirt; a little boy, first former to be precise notices me in my Harrison College uniform and turns to his mother Mummy, mummy that's my Head Girl, his mother then comes over and begins this long conversation meanwhile I'm thinking that I don't feel like much of a role model covered in curry, and trying to maintain a straight face.

MBW: What facial products do you use?
MAIA: A mild soap and a moisturizer, I use sun block daily because I'm in the sun a lot. Other than that I keep my very sensitive skin clear by drinking a lot of water.

MBW: Do you diet, work out or just wing it?
MAIA: A combination of diet and working out is what I employ to stay in shape, I enjoy going to the gym so it's never a burden to be there and I studied nutrition so I understand the importance of fueling your body, like any other machine. But I believe in balance and appreciate that icing and cake are two different food groups, and ice cream should be a daily vitamin, calcium after all is good for you.

MBW: What is your X factor?
MAIA: Definitely my personality, my confidence in what I stand for at all times. I'm always happy, and make people around me happy, because of my positivity . I am always motivated to find the win-win solution in every situation and I love sharing that energy with everyone around me. You drain yourself when you start to think negative.

MBW: What is your personal style?
MAIA: Playful professional. I'm used to looking like I'm on my way to or from the Hospital, mastered the medical chic' look, but my style is also very playful and I need to be able to move easily in whatever I'm wearing, so comfort is really important. I like bold statements in my clothes but not a loud style, I prefer to speak for myself as opposed to having my clothes do it for me.

MBW: What is your weakness if any?
MAIA: Everyone has weaknesses, I would say my weakness is also my best asset: so long as I can help, I will; so I sometimes get upset when there are so many people who can do so much but instead collectively decide to do nothing.

MBW: Where will the Miss Barbados World judges score you highest: interview, talent, swimsuit or gown presentation
MAIA: My creativity in my talent, swimwear and gown presentation I believe will assist me in gaining significant points with the judges, however my interview is where I feel I will be most comfortable and therefore have the most impact on the judges.

MBW: Why should you be crowned Miss Barbados World 2010?
MAIA: Miss Barbados World is an ambassador for the country and as such she must have the confidence and the presence to represent Barbados not just adequately, but incredibly; not just in the beauty arena but in all areas of life; and I believe that I have the interest, the confidence, the intellectual ability and the enthusiasm to achieve this.As the Barbadian representative to Miss World at the 60th Anniversary of the pageant I would eagerly look forward to highlighting my country and my region on this world stage.

MBW: What message you would like to send to the other Miss Barbados World contestants?
MAIA: This show is an opportunity to learn not only about ourselves but more importantly about other people; and I truly hope my fellow contestants take this opportunity to learn about each other so that at the end of the show we are all winners, and have formed friendships that will last a lifetime.

INTERVIEW WITH MARIA WALTERS

MBW: Describe yourself in THREE sentences.
MARIA: I am a very determined individual and I don't allow obstacles to hinder me from achieving my goals. I am very pleasant and I try to only highlight the positive in situations. I hate to argue so whenever possible I avoid arguments.

MBW: What don't most people know about you?
MARIA: I am very sensitive, my feelings are so easily hurt, but I don't ever show it on the outside, I have mastered the art of hiding my true feelings. Well, I guess the secret is out.

MBW: Which THREE songs must be in your I-Pod?
MARIA: The three songs are, I will survive by Gloria Estefan, I know my redeemer lives by Nicole Mullins and Still I rise by Yolanda Adams.

MBW: Tell us about your Beauty With a Purpose project.
MARIA: I have not decided as yet how I am going to organize it, but I do know that I want to do something different because usually when persons lecture about HIV/AIDS its usually dry and you don't get through to many persons, they forget what was said as soon as they hit the door, so my object is to get the message across in a way that they are interested and that they understand the seriousness of the situation.

MBW: What has been your most memorable sunny day?
MARIA: Had so many, a day at the beach with my family, my father and brother in the water while my mother reads the newspaper on the sand (she is a strong believer of the sea don't have no backdoor theory)and I am reading a good novel in between going in the water and getting something to eat.

MBW: If you were invited to participate in the 2010 Italian Fashion Week which international designer would you like to dress you?
MARIA: I will be totally honest right here; I am not familiar with many designers, so trust me the name that I will list came from the internet a few seconds ago. I would want to be dressed by Fendi, because they have some designs that I wouldn't feel totally ridiculous if I were to wear them in public.

MBW: Tell us about your favorite liming spot.
MARIA: A total secret, known by only God and myself, but I'll tell you about the view, it's a cliff and when you look down all you see is the ocean spread out before you, the air is fresh and the view is spectacular, it's the total forget all your problems spot. And if you happen to get there to watch the sunrise it's even more breath taking.

MBW: What has been your most embarrassing moment? Describe it.
MARIA: I'm not easily embarrassed and that's just me being honest. In life something will happen, everybody has their moment. So when it's your turn just deal with it and move on.

MBW: What facial products do you use?
MARIA: I am a proactive believer; I also use Neutrogena and the original black soap.

MBW: Do you diet, work out or just wing it?
MARIA: I work out three times a week, I do gymnastics and when I have time I try to make dance class. I diet, but to be honest, sometimes I cheat, I have a total weakness for sugar, and my trainer and I are always on the warpath for that. I say Tea time biscuits and orange juice he says egg whites and water.

MBW: What is your X factor?
MARIA: I would have to say that my x-factor is my smile. Persons are always complimenting me on it. I love to smile and it's useful too, if you know how to use it. I smile at my trainer often but it doesn't work on him, I still have to run my laps and I still have to do my squats, darn..I guess it doesn't work on everybody!!

MBW: What is your personal style?
MARIA: I like to keep it simple really. Not just in my dressing and my make up but in all aspects. I believe in taking life as it comes and just being content.

MBW: What is your weakness if any?
MARIA: I love shoes, and especially since I am short, I love a pair of high heels. I am walking pass the store and I can be almost certain that they wink at me and call my name and I am powerless, I just can't resist.

MBW: Where will the Miss Barbados World judges score you highest: interview, talent, swimsuit or gown presentation
MARIA: judges will score me highest in talent.

MBW: Why should you be crowned Miss Barbados World 2010?
MARIA: am an excellent example of the beauty and talent that Barbados has to offer.

MBW: What message you would like to send to the other Miss Barbados World contestants?
MARIA: Don't give up, always keep trying and don't let anybody convince you that you cannot achieve what you have made up your mind to achieve. And even though it's a competition, lighten up and have some fun, don't think twice to help another competitor if you can because at the end of the day we are all human beings. We have been set apart as ambassadors for other woman let us lead them by example and behave in a way that is proper and commendable.

SIMONNE: I'm very outgoing with a great sense of humor and always willing to try new things. I am always willing to help others once I can. I usually take chances and stand for something that I really believe in.

MBW: What don't most people know about you?
SIMONNE: first passion growing up was art because I loved to draw and design different   types of clothing.

SIMONNE: Boy by Rihanna, Itty Bitty Piggy by Nicki Minaj and Cold Case Love by Rihanna.

MBW: Tell us about your Beauty With a Purpose project.
SIMONNE: My project would be mainly directed towards persons living with HIV Aids trying to assist them because it is known that they are usually pushed away by family members and the community. My project will therefore further educate the public so that they will understand that these persons living with HIV Aids need love and support as well.

MBW: What has been your most memorable sunny day?
SIMONNE: Most memorable sunny day was the day before my 17th birthday and my sister took   me shopping then my mother got me to ride an ATV for the first time which was   very exciting because I always wanted to ride on one.

MBW: If you were invited to participate in the 2010 Italian Fashion Week which internationaldesigner would you like to dress you?
SIMONNE: Chanel because her clothes are very feminine with a hint of sex appeal   and a lot of sophistication.

MBW: Tell us about your favorite liming spot.
SIMONNE:My favourite liming spot is Red Rock Lime and Bistro because their dj   plays excellent music and their burgers are delicious!.

MBW: What has been your most embarrassing moment? Describe it.
SIMONNE: My most embarrassing moment was when I was exiting the stage in Taboo and I   suddenly fell and sat on the floor wondering how I fell.

SIMONNE:  I AM A NATURAL PERSON SO I PREFER TO WASH MY FACE, APPLY LIP GLOSS & EYE-LINER LOL LOL

MBW: Do you diet, work out or just wing it?
SIMONNE: work out but only when I get with my other friends who work out so it isn't as   often as I should.

SIMONNE: have a great sense of humor. I love to make other people laugh.

SIMONNE: Swimsuit because I consider myself physically fit.

MBW: Why should you be crowned Miss Barbados World 2010?
SIMONNE: I should be crowned Miss Barbados World 2010 because I can relate to a   lot of other young women on different levels meaning I have had a very   challenging past but I still did everything I could to better myself and to gain   my independence at a young age. I am also very interested in assisting where I   can with the different issues our community faces today.

MBW: What message you would like to send to the other Miss Barbados World   contestants?
SIMONNE: My message would be to never give up on your dreams and when others tell you   that you can't, work harder to prove to them that you can.
