INTERVIEW WITH CHACONIA GRIFFITH

MBW: Describe yourself in THREE sentences.
CHACONIA I am a warm friendly sociable individual and full of spunk. I have a very unforgettable smile and cannot end a wholesome conversation without a good laugh. I am also very reliable and responsible.

MBW: What don't most people know about you?
CHACONIA I may come across to others as very confident and intimidating, but I am a very shy and self-conscious person.

MBW: Which THREE songs must be in your I-Pod?
CHACONIA “So Hard” by Rihanna,  “ What Do You Want From Me” by Adam Lambert and “ All the Right Moves” by One Republic.

MBW: Tell us about your “Beauty With a Purpose” project.
CHACONIA The aim of my project, “Beauty with a Purpose” is to heighten the awareness of “Children who suffer with Autism” and to join forces with the newly formed Association, ‘Spectrum Possibilities’. This will promote their educational programme which is dedicated to sharing HOPE for recovery from this developmental disorder.

MBW: What has been your most memorable sunny day?
CHACONIA My most memorable sunny day was the announcement of Barack Obama becoming the first Black President of the United State of America. My mother and I followed the election coverage until the big announcement. I was overwhelmed with emotions and tears of joy rolled down my cheeks.

MBW: If you were invited to participate in the 2010 Italian Fashion Week which international designer would you like to dress you?
CHACONIA I love DSquared2 or Custo Barcelona but I admire the designs from Jared Gold. I saw his designs on the Americas Next Top Model Cycle 6, Episode 4, where the models’ challenge was to wear his pieces with eccentric accessories that surprised everyone, bedazzled Madagascar cockroaches. I like that his pieces are very innovative and the pieces connected to my sense of style, sophisticated but it has its own “swag” to it.

MBW: Tell us about your favorite liming spot.
CHACONIA I don’t exactly have a specific liming spot. I enjoy long drives with my closest friends, listening to music and enjoying the beautiful scenery. These moments calm my soul while I day dream in my “own world”.

MBW: What has been your most embarrassing moment? Describe it.
CHACONIA Lol … I cannot believe I am being asked this question. I can recall going to a family picnic where I was at Bath Beach. At that time the beach was experiencing bad current. A tide came from nowhere, and pushed me over when I was trying to avoid it. I tripped over a tree root and fell on my side like a slow motion movie. Everyone laughed and was shocked that only my right side of my dress was wet after the huge tide passed.

MBW: What facial products do you use?
CHACONIA I use Simple Cleansing Lotion and Vitamin E oil.

MBW: Do you diet, work out or just wing it?
CHACONIA I prefer not to use the term “diet”, but I monitor how I eat in a healthy, natural way along with plenty of exercise.

MBW: What is your X factor?
CHACONIA My X factor is challenging myself in an area that I never thought I would be in a position to experience for example this competition.

MBW: What is your personal style?
CHACONIA It varies, I can portray a sophisticated, posh and confident look like Victoria Beckham, or have a bit of a bad girl “swag” like Rihanna.

MBW: What is your weakness if any?
CHACONIA I think I am too trusting.

MBW: Where will the Miss Barbados World judges score you highest:  interview, talent, swimsuit or gown presentation
CHACONIA I hope to perform well in all areas, but I think I will score the highest in my interview and my gown presentation.

MBW: Why should you be crowned Miss Barbados World 2010?
CHACONIA Due my various backgrounds: being a past member of the Barbados Cadet Corp, a volunteer with the RSPCA from the early age of twelve, a member of an amazing modeling agency, and currently a member of the Constituency Council where I hope to represent the opinions of the youth of my country, I know I am eligible to be the ideal contestant to wear this crown.  My strong character and abilities to accept people, for who they are, despite their race, their cultures or religion, would qualify me to be an Ambassador, not only for my country but to represent others throughout the world.

MBW: What message you would like to send to the other Miss Barbados World contestants?
CHACONIA What can I say….it is a competition; however, I keenly anticipate building new relationships and experiencing this once in a lifetime opportunity with you as a life changing process for we are the young women of this generation who will make a difference in the eyes of our country. We are all role models.

SimonneCoppin - 7:44am, Friday 14 May 2010.

Yes you are very beautiful!!!

Stephanie Chase - 8:38am, Monday 17 May 2010.

How was rehearsal today Chaconia?

Stephanie Chase - 8:38am, Monday 17 May 2010.

Today rehearsals went smoothly, today showed me that i have alot of potential and exposed me to a new quality that i never thought I had..... that is Public Speaking. I believe with more practise, I will be more confident in myself and focused.

chaconia griffith - 1:57pm, Monday 17 May 2010.

Yes Chaconia you have TREMENDOUS potential you have to tap into it and allow yourself to shine. You have a wonderful tone, you are beautiful to look at, speak with confidence & eloquence - these things will have people eating out of your hand.

How was the beach clean up? I know on that particular day you were in your own zone.

Stephanie Chase - 10:36am, Tuesday 18 May 2010.

On the day of the beach clean up I was not well at all, but I still drove myself to evaluate the purpose of this exercise.

Barbados is a beautiful country, our beaches are beautiful, we have a cool climate all year around, and we are one of the most recommended islands to visit. If we, the people of this nation do not change our attitudes, this little island's main attraction will be destroyed.
Seriously people, we need to take this to heart, the beach is apart of our pride and industry, DO NOT LITTER ON THE BEACHES!!

The things I found was astonishing, I found bottles: glass and plastic, cans, plastic bags, I could not believe that this type of behaviour emulates the attitude of the average Barbadian. It really made me wonder, do we as Barbadians have pride in ourselves???

chaconia griffith - 2:59pm, Thursday 20 May 2010.

Tell us about your experience at The First Class Fitness Centre gym orientation.

Stephanie Chase - 7:02am, Sunday 23 May 2010.

I was looking forward to the gym orientation, THE FIRST CLASS FITNESS CENTRE GYM was great, the staff is soo friendly and they have our best interests at heart. They wanted us to work hard but with safety and hygienic practises.

After orientation, I was anxious to learn how to use some of the machines which assisted in Cardio. I cannot wait to give, THE FIRST CLASS FITNESS CENTRE GYM another visit.

I would like to thank Stephanie for her efforts for ensure that all contestants should keep fit and prepare for this competition body wise. Stephanie is working hard and I must extend a hug THANK YOU for arranging the gym orientation for us.

Again, THANK YOU STEPHANIE CHASE, XO

chaconia griffith - 12:21am, Monday 24 May 2010.

The HIV/AIDS Workshop was very interesting and informative. I learnt more about the HIV/AIDS and it made me aware that we as Barbadians have alot to be thankful for; our Government ensure that we have access to Health care. This eases the tension for any individual who may be living with the virus and the individual like everyone has access to medication and councilling that is necessary to help them along the way.

Thanks to Ms Chase for organising this workshop and to Ms Nurse who took the time of her afternoon to educate us the topic.

chaconia griffith - 9:34am, Monday 24 May 2010.

I went to the gym today, it was great work out for an hour and a half. I am so proud of myself, hopefully I will be soon ready for this competiton BIG TIME!!!!!

chaconia griffith - 2:34pm, Thursday 27 May 2010.

Chaconia everytime i see you you look smaller to me so I know that you are working out really hard. I am glad that you enjoy your work out sessions.

You had the filming of your infomercials on Sunday , tell us about the experience.

Stephanie Chase - 1:28pm, Tuesday 1 June 2010.

You had alot of family support at the Miss Barbados World official Launch. Tell us about how you felt before, during & after your speech?

Stephanie Chase - 1:38pm, Wednesday 2 June 2010.

Hey everyone!!!!

The filming of my infomercial on Sunday was a BLAST!! I enjoyed every moment of it. I was a so nervous but I got over my fears, and I just said my script with confidence. Despite the warm and humid day, I enjoyed it with contestants and boy did we had some laughs.

The night of the Official Launch of Miss Barbados World, I was extremely nervous. It was my first time being on stage, saying my speech and standing among a crowd and the media. I think I was experiencing an adrenaline rush.lol.

When my name was called, I walked on the stage with confidence. I tried not to allow my nervousness to show but I was so nervous. My nerves kicked in and I said my speech. I was very proud of myself, the first try that left an unforgetable statement, I am a survivor. I have overcomed my fears.

After the speech, I was in another room alone and I just thanked God for helping me to make it through my speech without panicking. I felt at ease, and realised that the race has begun. I am confident, that I will grow throughout to the end of this competition.

chaconia griffith - 6:10am, Thursday 3 June 2010.

Another herdal to overcome today........interviewed by the press. I hope that I am able to spread the message across about my project and the new Charity, "Spectrum Possibilities". I am excited and a little nervous but this is my calling and I have the passion for it.

Wish me luck........:)

chaconia griffith - 1:50am, Monday 7 June 2010.

You certainly have the drive & determination Chaconia I am sure that the interview went well!!

Yesterday was the Survivor Challenge. You were a bit late but nonetheless that didnt stop you from winner some of the events. How was the experience for you & would you do it again?

Stephanie Chase - 10:18pm, Saturday 12 June 2010.

Of course I would do it over again, Stephanie. Even though we were not able to sleep the night out, I certainly enjoyed every moment between the contestants and I to the fullest. The challenge taught us many things: how to appreciate our beautiful island, the lovely scenary, our people who were willing to give a helping hand and each other's company.

I got more familiar with the contestants even though we are competing against each other, the challenge showed a more relaxed side. We talked, we worked together as a team and we shared plenty of laughs.

I think after this challenge, it has built my confidence and self-esteem. I feel more comfortable in the presence of the contestants and you as well, Stephanie. I am looking forward to another day out for sure.

chaconia griffith - 3:27pm, Sunday 13 June 2010.

Chaconia you have passed the final hurdle which was the Beauty With A Purpose prejudging how was the experience?

Stephanie Chase - 2:11pm, Sunday 4 July 2010.

What can you say, Hard work does pay off!! The presentation of my Beauty with a Purpose project went well. I had my doubts in the beginnning that I might not be able to pull the point accross but I managed to focus my energy on my topic, "Children living with Autism" and the many Barbadian families I met who has a child living with Autism.

I know that everyone was counting on me to make a difference about this topic therefore I put my passion and enthusiaum into it. It was not an easy task standing in front of judges presenting my project but I told myself that this is MY PROJECT and I know what message I would like to spread.

It was "Moving beyond Awareness: Exploring new possibilities for Autism". I am proud and very honoured that I choosen a topic like this, and I hope the judges understand how important this topic meant to me.
