INTERVIEW WITH NIKEDA GRIFFITH

MBW: Describe yourself in THREE sentences.
NIKEDA I am tenacious and no one but myself can make me fail. I am dedicated and no one can take that away from m. I am my own best friend and I believe that the most valuable asset one can posses is independence.

MBW: What don't most people know about you?
NIKEDA Most people don’t know that I love to talk walk on the beach and enjoy the more simple things in life.

MBW: Which THREE songs must be in your I-Pod?
NIKEDA The three songs that must be in my iPod are; Stand by Donnie McClerkin, You’ll Never Find by Jah Cure and Another Saturday Night by Sam Cooke.

MBW: Tell us about your “Beauty With a Purpose” project.
NIKEDA My Beauty with a Purpose Project is under the umbrella of Hope Campaign (3H- Hope, Heart, Healing), the project is basically on HIV/AIDS and single mothers. The Hope Campaign is a family geared campaign that will raise the importance of single mothers living with HIV/AIDS. I chose Hope, Heart and healing because Hope represents the future, the Heart symbolises how strong I feel about what my campaign is doing and the family is the heart of the community. I also recognise mothers and children are the most vulnerable group in the society in terms of HIV/AIDS. And the hope campaign is focusing on healing families one at a time to make Barbados a better place. We have different strategic plans to reach our island, going to one unrecognised primary school in each parish island wide to do mini seminars on HIV/AIDS, planning to have the Parish Ambassadors involved as well, there will be a symbol to identify my campaign which will be a red an d white layered ribbon with the words (Hope, Heart Healing) printed on them. A motorcade to raise the awareness the public not only about me being in Miss Barbados World 2010 but with my pamphlets  the public will have material to read more like a mini-bio of myself, the campaign and the show.

MBW: What has been your most memorable sunny day?
NIKEDA My most memorable sunny day would have to be one where I was more tired than usual, and did not want to stay at home, got on a route 11 and went to Accra Beach paid $30.00 for a beach chair and fell asleep on the beach with my iPod and bag under me, to wake up with a strange man over me saying “sleeping beauty, how could you all asleep out here?”.. I smiled got up and went home thinking this was strange too strange.

MBW: If you were invited to participate in the 2010 Italian Fashion Week which international designer would you like to dress you?
NIKEDA Gianfranco Ferre- because of the way his creations seem to change the way people dress worldwide. His dedication to his to fashion is more than love and it shows.

MBW: Tell us about your favorite liming spot.
NIKEDA Under the first three trees to the right at Accra beach, since I am a very reserved kind of person at times, I really enjoy the serenity and quietness of the beach. I go there and do some introspection.

MBW: What has been your most embarrassing moment? Describe it.
NIKEDA My hair done in Kinky Twist, walking down Broad street only for a tourist to kindly run behind me “Miss, Miss!!, your braids fell out”. I looked down four of my braids were trailing me; I was so embarrassed I smiled, said "thanks!" and disappeared into Cave Shepherd.

MBW: What facial products do you use?
NIKEDA Neutrogena face bar and Mac.

MBW: Do you diet, work out or just wing it?
NIKEDA Diet and Work Out, Thanks to Cole Yates and the Spartan Cricket Club especially Antoine Sergeant, who has been training with me everyday rainfall sunshine.

MBW: What is your X factor?
NIKEDA My X-Factor is cute as a button smile!!

MBW: What is your personal style?
NIKEDA My personal style is whatever looks good on me , and it must compliment what mood I am in at the time.

MBW: What is your weakness if any?
NIKEDA Weakness is a good book since I absolutely love to read!!

MBW: Where will the Miss Barbados World judges score you highest:  interview, talent, swimsuit or gown presentation
NIKEDA My interview

MBW: Why should you be crowned Miss Barbados World 2010?
NIKEDA I believe I posses the traits of an outstanding ambassador for my country with the strength of my educational background, it helped mould me into the unique young lady I am today. As well as being the embodiment of a new meaning of life, my purpose is to seek the meaning and fulfil it, this platform is one of my steps towards reaching my goals for this is my destiny which is my ultimate decision.

MBW: What message you would like to send to the other Miss Barbados World contestants?

Nikeda, you must overcome your fear of public speaking. The first step is to commit your speech to memory and then practice it aloud! The more you say it the better you will become, recite it to your friends or family who will give you honest constructive comments. You have an excellent speech you simply need to execute it. Continue to smile it will draw your audience to pay closer attention to what you have to say.

Stephanie Chase - 10:39pm, Saturday 8 May 2010.

yay!! finally i am able to login .. ok lets see with regards to my public speaking i have made awsome progress!! im great my dear.. yes 4:30 was a task for me but none the less i made it, its about consistency and dedication... the environmental clean up was some what very interesting i love cleaning up, i had fun, i learned to that as a country we do not appreciate the finer things in life which is very sad.. like our sealife it was heart wrenching to see, the rum bottles, the cooking ingredients etc.. BARBADOS PLEASE, WE CAN DO BETTER THAN THIS.!!

nikeda - 7:19am, Monday 10 May 2010.

Yes we really did see some filthy stuff on the beach but it is efforts like this that bring about greater awareness to the damage that littering causes. We must all play our part.

Stephanie Chase - 8:46am, Monday 17 May 2010.

I am really sorry that you experienced such a dreadful ordeal the other day Nikki. It must be psychologically draining to go through a robbery but we hope that the perpetrators are caught and feel the full weight of the law.

Stephanie Chase - 8:47am, Monday 17 May 2010.

You have improved tremendously under the conditions and I want you to continue to hold your head up and aim for excellence its within your reach.

Tell us about the HIV/AIDS Workshop

Stephanie Chase - 1:52pm, Tuesday 25 May 2010.

the HIV/AIDS workshop was one that brought back memories for me due to the fact that i did it before, with Ms. Nurse... it was very very very educational the fact that people still say HIV/Aids as one thing an d it is really two different things, also one does not die form AIDS but from the ongoing factors since the immune system is at its lowest... dis enabling the body to take its natural course of action... i think it was well presented and all the girls got something from it

nikeda - 10:27pm, Thursday 27 May 2010.

Stephanie is giving all the girls 1000% and i want to say a hearty thank you pageant mom.. and friend..
